A man who was relaxing on his sofa at home was left seriously injured - after a car crashed into his living room and burst into flames.

A powerful white Volkswagen Golf R ploughed through the lounge wall of the Morehall Close semi-detached property in York, during the early hours of Sunday - while the man was watching TV.

The resident who was sitting on his sofa, was later rushed to hospital, but his wife and child - who were also in the property at the time of the crash - escaped injury.

The driver has been arrested and three people inside the car, including the driver, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Fire crews from Huntington, Acomb and York were called to deal with the blaze after the car burst into flames. Sgt Paul Cording told Minster FM: “It’s astounding that no one has lost their lives in this incident.”
